WELCOMING COQUILLE FINE SEAFOOD

WE ARE DELIGHTED to welcome to Vancouver’s diverse and elaborate food scene a new fine dining seafood restaurant, Coquille. Located in our historic Gastown on 181 Carrall Street, Coquille serves up an array of fresh seafood and shellfish dishes created by locally acclaimed chefs Lee Cooper and Jack Chen, and partnered with our very own Nin Rai, founder of Truffles Fine Foods. This new nautical-themed restaurant has already made a huge splash with local foodies. Building on all the positive feedback this eatery has received, here are some reasons why we are so excited to talk about what makes this new restaurant both praiseworthy and a contender for your next culinary adventure.

Upon entering this newly renovated establishment, you will immediately feel like you have just boarded an ocean liner from the early 20th Century – a lovely homage to the rich maritime history we have here in Vancouver. From the plank floors to the mahogany tables and brass light fixtures, no details were skipped to create a warm, inviting atmosphere for diners. I particularly admire their choice of colours – cool, subtle, and relaxing yet elegant.

Come For The Drinks, Stay For The Food

The drink menu features a variety of house-made cocktails (such as the Coquille G&T – a must-try in my opinion), prestigious BC and international wines, as well as locally crafted beers and cider. As for food options, there are several dishes here that would challenge your palate in a very pleasing way. Coquille offers a variety of freshly shucked oysters, small plates, seafood platters, and even soups and sandwiches. If you need some convincing, I encourage you to check out their Instagram feed for some gastronomical inspiration.

Putting “Happy” Back In “Happy Hour”

Happy Hour has really been challenging for myself as of late because Vancouver, simply put, has too many options for me to choose from. As we are a coastal city, finding seafood is not all too difficult; however, finding it at a reasonable price is another story.

Well, friends, look no further because Coquille presents us with offers that are too delicious and tempting to pass on. Available daily from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. & from 9 p.m. to late, their Happy Hour menu had me nodding and shouting, “Yes! Sign me up and take my money!” Trust me when I say this: It’s worth the visit. Although it has yet to be officially released on their website, here is a sneak peak of what you can expect to find on their Happy Hour menu:

Considering coquille is the French word for “shell”, a menu with such an appealing oyster special seems very befitting, right? From Royal Miyagi and Kusshi, to Beau Soleil and Shigoku, diners are presented with several options to select from – all of which are half off during Happy Hour. Perhaps you are just stopping by for a drink? Their cheap beer and cocktail options are a great way to unwind and goes very well with the other menu options.

I digress. Coquille is a truly unique restaurant that has a lot to offer. Regardless of what time of day you are stopping by, the ambiance and food will leave you talking about it for days. Once again, I am more than happy to welcome this new restaurant to the Vancouver food scene. I only hope it does not get too busy otherwise getting reservations will be tough! Truffles Fine Foods At The Honda Celebration of Lights

 

Nothing beats sitting down at the beach as the sun sets, enjoying appetizers and a buffet of good food, waiting for the music to start, and the anticipation of fireworks. Every summer, Vancouver residents and tourists alike gather around English Bay to watch some of the world’s best compete in a firework and music extravaganza. The Honda Celebration of Lights is a summer festival many eagerly anticipate all summer long.

This years competing countries are Japan (July 29th), the United Kingdom (August 2nd), and Canada (August 5th). The fireworks begin at 10pm each night. While there are plenty of free spots to watch the fireworks, there are also ticketed areas that ensure you get an ideal viewing location of the event. Truffles Fine Foods is proud to be a part of two of these ticketed areas. You will be able to find us both at the Concord Lounge and the YVR Business Class Cabanas.

The Concord Lounge will be located on on English Bay along the peninsula, and feature a hot and cold buffet along with two complimentary cocktails and a cash bar. Enjoy a laid back beach atmosphere with dinner and a prime view of the fireworks.

The YVR Business Class Cabanas will allow you to entertain up to 23 guests in a lounge that comes with complimentary appetizers and a cash bar service. Each cabana will have 200 square feet of dedicated space, and come with optional catering upgrades.

PEMBERTON MUSIC FESTIVAL

Catering to the Pemberton Music Festival is no small feat, but our team was up for tackling the task!

In recent years, music festivals have become an essential element of summertime in British Columbia. Each sunny season our province welcomes big-name musical acts along with throngs of fans flocking to catch their favourite artists. Over the July 14th – 17th weekend, Pemberton was the place to be as tens of thousands of music fans ascended upon the sleepy mountain town. The stage was set to welcome The Killers, Snoop Dogg, Wolf Parade, Wintersleep, headliners Pearl Jam, and dozens more.

It takes an enormous crew to successfully pull off a four-day music festival, so Truffles Fine Foods was thrilled to provide food services at the Pemberton Music Festival. Our team went into preparation mode long before the first notes were ever played. Our team chopped, diced, and sliced to feed the crew members who were busy setting up stages, unloading trucks, and getting the site ready to welcome music fans.

Pemberton Music Festival

During the entire festival, our team fed over 1,000 people daily – at each of breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Doing so required 30 staff members, half of which were chefs while the other half were serving and cleaning up. Two massive food stations were constructed and maintained to display the feast, and no details were overlooked.

VanDusen Garden Visitor Centre

Tucked away amongst the verdant oasis that is VanDusen Gardens, the Visitor Centre is a stunning architectural feat. Inside you’ll find several facility options, each with its own unique characteristics and style. The Peggy Gunn Woodland Hall (pictured above) is separated into Halls A & B, but may also be rented out together. The Visitor Centre also features a Great Hall with capacity for up to 250 for a cocktail party and 120 seated. The adjacent Great Lawn is a magnificently-designed outdoor rental space, perfect for large gatherings and events. By paying a flat rate you’ll also gain access to the entire garden – a truly incredible feature to this venue. And, of course, Truffles Fine Foods is on-site, adding simplicity to the planning process.

Science World Green Roof

For something truly out of this world, Science World’s Green Roof is sure to invoke awe amongst your friends, family, and colleagues. With expansive views of False Creek, your guests won’t soon forget an evening with the iconic Vancouver skyline as a backdrop. This space can accommodate a large group and included in all rentals is a tent on the Green Roof with seating space for up to 170 guests for a sit-down dinner.

Bill Reid Gallery

Corporate events are taken to the next level when held amongst the glittering metropolis of downtown Vancouver. The Bill Reid Gallery, located at the heart of the city, is beautifully enhanced with many of Bill Reid’s striking works on display, adding true West Coast culture to whatever you’re hosting. With more than 4,000 square feet, this diverse space can easily welcome a wide range of events.

UBC Boathouse

As a city on the Pacific Ocean, deciding to add a nautical flair to your Vancouver event is a beautifully-fitting idea. With that in mind, there are few places more dazzling than the UBC Boathouse. Featuring sunset views over the Fraser River, this well-appointed space is spacious enough to accommodate functions of all sizes. Their flexible floorplans and professional team make planning a breeze.

The Pipe Shop

Flip your perspective on the city with a view from the North Shore at The Pipe Shop at Lonsdale Quay. This dramatic and awe-inspiring venue is a restored warehouse from the 1940s, boasting over 9,000 square feet! Floor-to-ceiling windows allow natural light to flood the space, while rough-hewn timber frames the interior. The Pipe Shop combines natural elements with an industrial feel to undoubtedly wow your guests. On sun-drenched evenings, wander outside for unparalleled views of downtown Vancouver.

Creekside Community Centre

Trust us – Creekside Community Centre is not just any community centre. Hugging the shore of False Creek and chicly constructed of sparkling glass, Creekside’s largest multipurpose room packs a scenic punch with spectacular views of downtown Vancouver and the North Shore mountains. Perfect for a wide variety of group functions, as many as 100 guests can be welcomed for a sit-down meal.

Heritage Hall

For a decidedly elegant yet understated event, Heritage Hall, in the heart of Mount Pleasant, is an unexpected gem. The space is defined by its opulence, featuring a neutral colour scheme, stained glass chandeliers, high ceilings, and large windows all in a truly rare and historic space. Up to 200 guests can be accommodated at a cocktail party, but the space is intimate enough for smaller gatherings.

UBC Botanical Garden

Few places are as decidedly West Coast as the grounds of the UBC Botanical Gardens. Marrying the coast’s lush, green landscape with the expansive Pacific Ocean, few places in the area inspire romance as much as the gardens. UBC Botanical Gardens offers several spaces that are anything but common, each with varying capacities and features. The Main Lawn can welcome up to 250 people, while the Reception Centre, an indoor and outdoor space, showcases sea views for up to 100 of your guests.

Anvil Centre

With its slick, urban location, New Westminster’s Anvil Centre is new to the event venue scene with its state-of-the-art facility in the heart of British Columbia’s oldest city. Versatile floor plans, optimum audio and visual capabilities, and the capacity for a wide range of events (up to 500 for a sit-down banquet!), the Anvil Centre adds a cool and sophisticated feel to meetings, banquets, cocktail parties, and weddings.

Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre

Tucked away in the hip Yaletown neighbourhood, the Roundhouse can is defined by its versatility. Exuding the cool factor with a decidedly industrial look and feel, the Roundhouse is perfect for a mixer with live music, but also transforms beautifully into one of Vancouver’s most opulent event spaces. Original architecture, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and lumber framing, stunningly reflects the Roundhouse’s history. Up to 600 guests can be accommodated depending on the style of your event, and the space is well-suited for parties, exhibitions, trade shows, conferences, large gatherings, weddings, and performances.

THE TRUFFLES TEAM HIT ALL THE RIGHT NOTES AS THEY RECENTLY CATERED THREE LIVE NATION CONCERTS AT DEER LAKE PARK

Summertime is synonymous with outdoor concerts and festivals! Live Nation concerts at Deer Lake Park have become a “fan favourite” way to spend a sunny evening with some of the biggest music acts of today. The catering team at Truffles Fine Foods recently had the privilege to cater to three of those events, serving up an inventive and satisfying menu to rock royalty.

ALABAMA SHAKES

On May 28th, blues rock band Alabama Shakes took to the stage with their crew and special VIP guests. To keep the energy going all day long, we provided both lunch and dinner! Some highlights included:

A number of creative sides were also dished up, including Spanish rice, a steamed vegetable medley, beetroot & goat cheese salad, and no shortage of sugary-sweet dessert bars, squares, and homemade cookies.

THE CURE

Three days later, on May 31st, one of Britain’s most beloved rock bands, The Cure, swept into Deer Lake Park for a memorable evening. The band prepared for the show from morning until night, so to ensure that everyone was well fed, we created an eclectic spread of both exotic and local-centric fare.

And endless array of side dishes were also available including a complete breakfast bar in the morning, seared vegetables, assorted soups, a selection of desserts, and an exotic fruit platter.

THE LUMINEERS

Lastly, folk rockers The Lumineers took the stage on June 1st and played through the gloomy weather to a crowd of brave fans. The rain didn’t get anyone down, least of all the Truffles team, as they prepared hearty dishes for the wet day ahead.
