Truffles Fine Foods has joined the Vancouver Foodster Cheesecake Challenge!

The Vancouver Foodster Cheesecake Challenge is officially underway and Truffles Fine Foods hopes to destroy the competition! Restaurants, bakeries, and cafés from across Vancouver are competing for the title of Best Cheesecake in the city, and it’s up to you – our customers – to decide who wins.

The pastry team at Truffles Fine Foods is confident in its famous berry cheesecake-in-a-jar dish. With three tempting layers, it’s the perfect triple threat. A graham crumb base is smothered in sweet, creamy cheesecake filling, followed by a sumptuous topping of fresh berries, all served in a portable and charming latch-lid jar.

Running from April 14th until May 8th, you’ve got plenty of time to eat as many berry cheesecakes-in-a-jar while getting your votes in. When deciding on the winning cheesecake, look for originality, creativity, price, value, unique characteristics and, most importantly, taste! ONCE UPON A TIME CELEBRATES ITS 100th EPISODE

Once Upon A Time celebrated its 100th episode with Truffles Fine Foods

Like something out of a fairytale, our team recently created a legendary feast fit for kings, queens, and all the heroes in between. ABC’s Once Upon A Time has famously filmed in the Greater Vancouver area for several years, often transforming downtown Steveston into the fictional village of Storybrooke. The show recently celebrated its 100th episode and commemorated the event in spectacular style at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery in Richmond.

The order was a tall one as we crafted an exclusive menu for more than 475 guests, including the show’s crew, actors, and VIPs. As guests mingled and reflected on the show’s success, our staff passed around a selection of inventive Hors d’Oeuvres featuring ingredients with undeniably Canadian flavour:

In between sips of champagne and wine, guests were treated to platters of French macarons to satiate those with a sweet tooth.

Truffles Fine Foods has proudly catered to the cast and crew of Once Upon A Time for more than five years, and in that time we have cultivated a great relationship with each of them. We were honoured to help mark this milestone, and wish them every success for the next 100 episodes!

Truffles Fine Foods is proud to support the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Month

Throughout the month of April, Truffles Fine Foods is proud to once again support the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Month initiative. By supporting Daffodil Month, we’re helping to raise funds to help those living with cancer while also supporting their families. The Truffles team’s reason is simple: “Cancer impacts everyone in our community, so supporting this cause is something we really care for,” said Fanny Dufour, our Marketing & Business Development Manager.

2016 is the fourth year Truffles has partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society, and to honour that our pastry chef has created a delectable Daffodil Shortbread Cookie. Sugary sweet with tangy lemon and a hint of orange in the buttercream, these cookies are a tasty way to let our customers lend their support. Selling for $3 each before tax, $1 from the sale of each cookie will go directly to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The cookies will be available at our café locations in North Vancouver, at VanDusen Gardens, and in downtown Vancouver throughout the month of April. Symbolic of strength and courage, wearing a daffodil pin is an easy way to show you care. When you stop by one of our locations, be sure to also pick up a daffodil pin with all funds from the sale of pins going directly to the Canadian Cancer Society.

TRUFFLES’ SOUS-CHEF TO WIN CHOPPED CANADA

The Truffles Fine Foods‘ team watched the Food Network last February 6th to watch its Jr. Sous Chef, Josh Karbelnik, become the new champion on Chopped Canada.

Josh stepped behind the stoves to face four chefs before an all-star rotating panel of three expert Chopped Canada judges. Armed with skill and ingenuity, the competitors race against the clock to turn the mystery ingredients from their iconic baskets into an extraordinary three-course meal. Course-by-course, the judges decide which competitor host Brad Smith will “chop” from the competition until only the winner remains.

In episode five of Chopped Canada – “Cooking with Courage” – Josh strived at presenting a creative menu that included a Carribean chicken patty, a deconstructed scotch egg and myrtle blueberry ice cream. Watch the full episode here.

Josh brings a well-honed fine dining background to the competition. He spent several years studying at Niagara College prior to working at North 44 under the culinary tutelage of Sash Simpson and Mark McEwen (of Top Chef). He then shifted to Zest Restaurant in the heart of Niagara and begun training under David Watt until a tragic accident cost him two of his fingers. Not to be detered by this setback, it was his true passion for the culinary world that drove Josh to continue to pursue his career and he begun to retrain with the help of Bocuse competitor, Scott Jager of Pear Tree Restaurant in Burnaby, and we’re glad he did!

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news! Our very own Jr. Sous Chef, Josh Karbelnik is all set to heat up the kitchen on Chopped Canada on the Food Network! Watch the complete episode online.

Josh brought his well-honed fine dining background and experience to our Truffles team having moved across the country from Toronto. He spent several years studying at Niagara College prior to working at North 44 under the culinary tutelage of Sash Simpson and Mark McEwen (of Top Chef).

Next up: Josh shifted to Zest Restaurant in the heart of Niagara and begun training under David Watt until a tragic accident cost him two of his fingers.
